Nile River Festival 2016
XOA has gone to extreme lengths to cover the four-day Nile River Festival 2016 in Jinja, Uganda, that ended on January 24. Kayaking was the main activity, celebrating the River Nile - which is the longest river in the world - and its world class white waters.
Thousands of local and international tourists and competitors swarmed Jinja to take part in what could easily be the biggest whitewater kayaking festival in East Africa. The tourists were treated to spectacular on and off river activities and the lifestyle that surrounds the sport. Ugandan Xtremists carried the day, with Yusuf Basalirwa (UG), Bren Orton(UK) and Sam Ward (UG) clinching overall top 3 men positions respectively. Lowri Davies (UK) emerged top in women’s overall classification followed by Aminah Nakiirya of Uganda. From the results of the freestyle event and Itanda extreme race Basalirwa, Ward and Davies earned themselves places at Whitewater Grand Prix 2017.
Over the next few days, XOA crew will tour different Xtreme spots in Uganda and ultimately hang out with the prolific Ugandan team that recently participated in the ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championship.
